The GIS Professional's Guide to Experience Builder

              Classroom E

              $150

              Instructor: Daniela Spade

Participants will need to bring their own laptops with ArcGIS Pro installed.

ArcGIS Experience Builder (ExpB) is a lot to take in for the beginner. From the extensive template library (over 70 to choose from, compared with Web AppBuilder’s 10) to the builder itself, there is a definite learning curve when creating your first, second, third…tenth web application in ExpB. The truth is that ExpB does come with a steep learning curve because it is more complex than Web AppBuilder (WAB), but it is also a more powerful and robust tool.

Because WAB is retiring, the goal of this workshop is to teach you how to build web applications from scratch in ExpB. You will also learn how to recreate an existing WAB application using ExpB. Specific topics covered:

              • What is ExpB vs other ArcGIS apps?
                • Is it just a replacement for WAB?
              • What can ExpB do that WAB cannot?
                • What did I lose from WAB?
              • How do I build an app from scratch in ExpB?
                • Where do I start – template or blank?
                • What does it mean to have a pending widget?
                • Can I use this app on my phone or tablet?
              • How do widgets and widget interactions work in ExpB?
              • What do I do if my WAB widget is not available in ExpB?
              • Can I migrate my old apps?
              • What not to do in ExpB
              • Why is my ExpB app so slow?
              • When should I not use ExpB?

                Afternoon Workshops

                1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

The Comprehensive Fieldwork Solution - ArcGIS Field Maps

                Classroom A

                $150

                Instructor: ESRI Staff

Participants will require their own laptops and mobile devices for the session.

Discover ArcGIS Field Maps, the single app essential for your mobile workforce to streamline map-centric tasks. Field workers can seamlessly collect data, annotate maps, track locations, fulfill assignments, and navigate to assets—all within one application. This not only saves time for field workers by simplifying app usage but also reduces configuration efforts for you, as you only need to set up maps for one app. During this session, you'll learn how to configure maps to align with your field workflows, prepare maps for offline usage, and efficiently collect data in the field. Using your own mobile device, you'll test and deploy your map to ensure readiness for your mobile team.

                Instructor: ESRI Staff

Participants will require their own laptops for the session.

GeoAI represents the fusion of machine learning and location intelligence, offering a versatile capability present in numerous ArcGIS products. It aids organizations across various sectors in leveraging their data more effectively. Discover how to harness location data as the common thread to unveil concealed patterns, enhance predictive modeling, and gain a competitive advantage. We invite you to join us in exploring ArcGIS's robust built-in tools, including machine learning and deep learning frameworks.

Basic Coding for Web GIS and Beyond

                Classroom C

                $150

                Instructor: Todd Fagin

Participants will need to bring their own laptops with ArcGIS Pro installed, access to an ArcGIS Online account, and Notepad++ (freely available). DB Browser for SQLite and SpatialLite GUI will be provided.

This workshop is designed to introduce individuals to scripting and coding languages frequently employed in Web GIS development and desktop GIS analysis. No prior scripting and/or coding experience is required. Participants will need to bring their own computers, but all necessary software and data will be provided. We will primarily use free and open source software, but will also explore the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.

                The workshop will cover:

                • The basics of SQL SELECT statements
                • SQL/MM Spatial
                • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript essentials for web mapping
                • ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
                • Time Permitting: Arcade scripting

This is a hands-on workshop where participants learn by doing. SQL statements and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code will be provided.

Working with Legal Descriptions in ArcGIS Pro

                  Classroom D

                  $150

                  Instructor: Joel Foster

Participants will need to bring their own laptop with ArcGIS Pro 3.X installed and a license set to be available offline on that device. Participants are recommended to have an intermediate (now Professional) or advanced (now Professional Plus) level license for best results, however a basic (now Creator) level license will be sufficient.

Creating data from legal descriptions can be a headache, particularly if you do not commonly work with them. This workshop is intended to introduce users to legal descriptions and how to map them in ArcGIS Pro. At the end of the workshop, attendees will create a full cadastral map for one quarter section using the skills outlined below:

                  • Legal description types and defining characteristics:
                    • Public Land Survey System (PLSS) or aliquot descriptions
                    • Metes and bounds descriptions:
                      • Quadrant Bearings
                      • Curves
                    • Platted subdivisions
                  • Basic types of conveyances
                  • Coordinate geometry (COGO) tools in ArcGIS Pro
                  • Processes for mapping each legal description type in ArcGIS Pro
                  • Resolving discrepancies and errors when mapping legal descriptions

This course is specifically designed for GIS professionals who have little to no programming experience. If you’re a GIS analyst performing repetitive tasks, a GIS technician looking to increase productivity, or someone who has been intimidated by coding in the past, this course will show you how AI assistance makes automation accessible and achievable—no programming background required.

Even if you have some Python experience, you’ll discover a transformative new approach to development. Whether you’ve dabbled in Python and want to write better code faster, understand basic programming concepts but struggle with ArcPy syntax, or simply want to expand your automation capabilities quickly, leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude will accelerate your workflow development in ways traditional coding never could.

You’ll particularly benefit from this course if you perform repetitive geoprocessing tasks regularly, need to process multiple datasets with the same workflow, or create maps and layouts that require frequent updates. This training is also ideal if you want to standardize and document your GIS workflows or have been curious about AI-assisted coding but don’t know where to start. The bottom line: you don’t need to be a programmer to automate your work—you just need to know how to describe what you want and validate the results, and we’ll teach you exactly how to do that.

                  Software and Licenses

Students will need a computer with ArcGIS Pro installed and licensed. This should be verified prior to the start of class. Students will also need a login to either ChatGPT or Claude. The free version of either will work fine.
