GIS and IT Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
This position will oversee the GIS department and provide desktop tech support for the City’s computer network. It will focus primarily on the manual collection and management of data regarding the infrastructure of the City of Guymon. This collection process will involve using a handheld GPS device and ESRI software.

WORKING CONDITION/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regular attendance is required. Works in a climate controlled building, as well as outdoors in good weather. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, twist, make required movements to use the GPS device and lift, carry, and load items weighing up to 35 pounds or more in connection with computer maintenance. Must be able to communicate in person and on the telephone.



EXAMPLE OF SPECIFIC CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):
Must be able to work closely with all City Departments to:
• Import data from existing maps to the new database
• Add new data and photographic documentation from any open trenches as changes are being made
• Assist in retrieving maps from the data base in both digital and printed format for any ongoing repairs.
• Desktop PC support
• Network infrastructure
• Printer support
Required to know ArcGIS server software program and then accurately collect and input data from the handheld device. Required to know how to use the Trimble GPS mapping device.
Must create favorable impression of city workers to general public through conduct, speech and appearance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A. REQUIRED
Thorough knowledge of computer setup, maintenance, and repair, including how to manage computers in a networked environment. A thorough knowledge of ArcGIS server software.
Must have good English reading and writing abilities.
SKILLS:
Basic social skills to interact and converse and to create a favorable image to the City and its employees.
Abilities:
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods.
Ability to interact and converse with a variety of people
Verbal ability to report to supervisor as well as communicate with the public.
Ability to interact harmoniously with general public and co-workers.
Education:
4 yr degree in technology related field preferred.
Experience:
2 years
Licensing/Certification:
A valid Oklahoma Driver’s License with a good driving record is required.

B. DESIRED:
Rudimentary knowledge of Spanish words and phrases
Basic clerical skills
Basic housekeeping skills.
