GPS TECHNICIAN-PART TIME

Salary:   $13.00 Hourly

This position offers valuable exposure to a variety of municipal, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection activities. Under the general direction of the GIS Supervisor, the GPS Technician will perform various duties that include but are not limited to: interpreting site plans and engineering construction documents; gathering data in the field via GPS equipment; and exercising critical thinking to accomplish project goals. This position requires the individual to work independently with little to no supervision. The GPS Technician position is funded for approximately 20 hours per week at a rate of pay of $13.00 per hour (or 1000 hours/year maximum). This is a Part-Time position.

Examples of Essential Functions:

Duties include support of the City's GIS program by providing field collection/verification of city assets through the use of handheld GPS equipment. Troubleshooting issues and providing recommendations for GPS methodologies. Provide technical assistance to staff on GPS collected data. This position will field collect data points using handheld Trimble GPS GNSS receivers. Collection must strictly follow established techniques and standards, with all data entry inputted in a highly accurate manner.  Manage, maintain, and verify inventory of GPS units.  Must fulfill the creation/generation and delivery of data.

 The individual is required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary.  Must maintain a physical condition and standards necessary for the proper performance of duties, with or without accommodation. Performs related work as directed.

Education and Experience:

Experience in GIS/GPS/Surveying is preferred

Valid State of Texas driver's license

Experience with Trimble Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) units and Terrasync software preferred

Also Preferred: Experience in ESRI's ArcGIS suite products
