Mark Voyles has 21 year of IT experience with Edmond and is the Technology Coordinator for the Edmond Fire Department.
Today many aspects of the Fire Department rely on GIS technologies for mobile mapping, hydrant location, shelter registration, building/apartment location and other information.  Mark will be demonstrating the daily use of GIS within the Edmond Fire Department and techniques used for map books and security gates.

Creating a Common Operating Picture with GIS

Pipelines are the underground, unseen superhighways that provide our nation with the vital energy resources that make every day life possible.  The protection of these assets is essential to our country’s security, and the ability to respond to any pipeline related incident is important for the protection of our people, environment, and economy. This discussion will provide an overview of Chesapeake Midstream’s pipeline safety outreach efforts in educating, training and communicating  with the emergency response community and the critical role that GIS plays in this campaign.  We will also discuss the future of GIS for public safety in creating a common operating picture for all impacted parties for preparing and reacting to incidents that impact our nation’s “hidden” pipeline infrastructure.

Emergency Responder to GIS Analyst:

“Quick – I need a map and some data, to take with me out into the field, and I have no internet!”

 GIS Analyst to Emergency Responder:

“Sure – give me 15 minutes!”

 In this presentation, we will highlight a scenario where Public Safety personnel are responding to an incident, and they first must acquire maps and data from the local GIS Analyst.  ArcGIS provides several methods for quickly creating maps and data, and a way to view them, disconnected from a network.  We will cover some of the more common ways to do this, to get maps and data to emergency responders who might not have any GIS software on their laptops, and allow them to view and access this data without any network connectivity.
