GIS Technician

Job Summary : The GIS Technician under limited supervision will assist in the making of maps and customized geographic information systems (GIS) applications and manipulate data to serve a variety of purposes.

Primary Tasks:
1.    Work with GIS software and applications for the creation and maintenance of geospatial information.
2.    Creation and printing of cartographic products on large scale plotters and laminators.
3.    Field collection of geospatial information using GPS.
4.    Read and interpret maps, manipulate and understand digital land data and manage data entered into a GIS database.
5.    Meet with clients to discuss GIS projects and assist with presentations as needed.
6.    Creation of web mapping applications for internal client projects.
7.    Train users as needed in geographic information systems, and related technologies.
8.    Interpret legal description for the creation and editing of land and property geodatabases.
9.    Perform periodic QA/QC on completed data based on defined production processes.
10.    Travel to attend/participate in networking activities, conferences and training development.
11.    Additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

 
MINIMUM

•    Associate's degree or technical training in a computer or GIS related field or 1 year of equivalent work experience.
•    Ability to communicate technical information clearly.
•    Familiarity with basic computer operations and software (Microsoft Office, Adobe etc.).
•    2 years’ experience in creating, interpreting, and using a variety of GIS data and tools.

 
TARGET

•    BS/BA from an accredited college or university in geographic information systems, computer science, or a related field, or two years of experience working with geographic information systems.
•    Strong ability to communicate technical information clearly and to explore GIS solutions proactively.
•    4 years experience in creating, interpreting, and using a variety of GIS data and tools.
