GIS Analyst II

 Job description
RJN Group, Inc. (RJN) is a national engineering firm specializing in infrastructure assessment and rehabilitation.  RJN is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst for our location in Dallas, Texas.  Under the direction of a Project Manager, the GIS Analyst will work in conjunction with designated staff to process data collected and GIS data developed in support of various projects.  This position will work directly with Project Engineers to produce map exhibits, accurate data and information to effectively develop the desired deliverables.
 
Position Responsibilities

  • Analyze GIS data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses, using maps, graphs or tabular data
  • Create data into GIS databases, using techniques such as on-screen digitizing, coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, data collected in the field or conversion to other sources of digital data
  • Use appropriate methods and tools to build layers, themes and coverage as needed, obtained from client agencies and other sources as available; assists Project Engineers in fulfilling GIS information needs
  • Prepare maps conveying information from project databases for field activities and work orders, project engineering analysis and project deliverables and reports
  • Review existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality or completeness of documentation
  • Maintain or modify existing GIS databases
  • Post-process field data collected using GPS units
  • Follow all company, client, safety and regulatory requirements as related to this position and the work duties being performed
  • Complete other projects as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • B.S. in Geology, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Planning or Environmental Science; or a similar technical degree
  • 3 years of continued GIS experience


Technical Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Intermediate GIS software knowledge and experience including Esri GIS core products (e.g. ArcGIS, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox), or other equivalent GIS software and applications
  • Knowledge of GIS system architecture for Enterprise GIS planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Knowledge of GIS concepts and standards, including data development, editing and quality control procedures
  • Ability to work with various coordinate systems and projections
  • Ability to think critically and solve geo-processing errors and resolve technical issues with data and software using available knowledge bases and community support
  • Understanding of potential applications of GIS in various industries and specialities, including stormwater/wastewater/water infrastructure and asset management
  • Familiarity with applications such as Microsoft Access, SQL Server and Microsoft Excel for development and management of databases, spreadsheets and project information files
  • Proficiency in the operation of GIS equipment, including computer hardware, plotter/printer setup and GPS units
  • Proficiency in data management functions such as backup, archive, restoration, merging and editing

  • Genuinely excited and enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits and finding new solutions


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience working with the ESRI Wastewater/Stormwater Data Model and the Water Utility Network Editing Toolbar
  • Knowledge of publishing with ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS, including data versioning, multiuser and replication
  • Experience using ESRI Data Reviewer and Workflow Manager Extensions
  • Experience converting data between CAD and GIS
  • Development using Python, .NET, Esri ModelBuilder, JavaScript, HTML5 or CS5
