GIS Senior Programmer Analyst

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works with Tarrant County GIS users to gain understanding of needs across departmental boundaries, increase their skills and enhance productivity. Improves GIS user efficiency by creating custom desktop applications to meet their needs and eliminate redundancy in work flow procedures. Creates custom web based GIS applications for use by non-GIS staff such as Tarrant County residents and employees. Develops GIS web services as needed to be utilized in other Tarrant County Systems. Provides training as needed to keep Tarrant County employees up to speed with the use of GIS technology and custom GIS applications. Assists with project requirements, design, development, and implementation. Attends training as assigned by management to maintain, enhance or acquire job skills. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: To apply, must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography or a related field + Three (3) full-time years of work experience developing custom web-based and desktop applications, including One (1) full-time year of work experience in ESRI GIS products (specifically ArcGIS Desktop, ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server, and ArcSDE w/SQL Server 2005 back end). OR To apply, must have the equivalent of Seven (7) full-time years of IT education and work experience combined, including Three (3) full-time years of work experience developing custom web-based and desktop applications, and One (1) full-time year of work experience in ESRI GIS products (specifically ArcGIS Desktop, ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server, and ArcSDE w/SQL Server 2005 back end). NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED. Strong programming skills using any combination of the following: ArcObjects in .NET environment, JavaScript, HTML, XML, etc. Understanding of client/server technology, server architecture, and network protocols In-depth knowledge of relational databases such as MS SQL Server. Experience using web authorization and development tools. Must maintain current knowledge of GIS technology, have the ability to work independently, and able to communicate effectively with other Tarrant County department staff. Direct experience with local or regional government. If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing.
