Understanding and Implementing the US National Grid
A training course designed to provide geospatial professionals the understanding and skills to support emergency responders and decision makers with US National Grid-based spatial products and emergency workers with familiarity of the US National Grid and geospatial products and knowledge and skills about their use.
Day 1:
This day is specifically for individuals with map making experience. ESRI software (ArcMap 9.3.1) will be utilized during this course. A basic knowledge of ESRI software is required, but all GIS based professionals are welcome. There will be limited seats so sign-up ASAP to reserve your seat.
Day one will include: the importance of the USNG, an explanation of federal, state, and local standards, an understanding of some misconceptions of the USNG, Create a USNG map book, exercises in reading and training others to read and understand the USNG, USNG Zone Junctions, followed by questions.
Day 2:
This day is for all individuals interested in learning about the USNG. (First Responders, GIS Professionals, and anyone / everyone who wants to learn how to use the USNG in the field.)
Day two will involve classroom instruction (Map reading skills, GPS fundamentals, and Operational Considerations) and a navigation course for field experience.
